A study of vocational adaptive skills required to the adolescents with mental retardation in employment-site

Abstract
I proceeded this study by way of two stages of surveying and evaluating. The surveying stage focuses on which social skills on the jobs are required by the business houses which have employed the adolescents with mental retardation or have trained them with vocational adaptive skills on the jobs. The second stage centers on how to evaluate the employees with mental retardation under the training programs of the adaptive skills provided by the houses. I visited 12 working places, conducted many interviews with the coordinators who have trained the mentally retarded with the pertinent programs, and surveyed to sort out what kinds of social skills are required on the jobs. I selected 52 subjects with mental retardation in the senior high school of special education or in the vocational training institutes after high school in order to know the level of acquisition. The final analysis of the collected data comes out as follows; First, the social skills to be needed are found as 15 items. Second, most of the adolescents with mental retardation are not ready for the vocational adaptive skills, guide-lined by the employers. Only two of the 52 subjects could be categorized as appropriate before such skills are applied.
